An Intimate Elopement: Embracing Love in the Serenity of Glen Oaks

Micro Wedding On The Coast of Big Sur, California

Documentary Film and Digital PHOTOGRAPHER Tai Lee Photography

Imagine your wedding day, waking up in a beautiful cabin nestled in the woods. The river runs close by, and your guests arrive, crossing a beautiful, gently swaying, wooden bridge and walk into an open grassy meadow, surrounded by the peace and calm of the sequoia forest. The energy is calm, and peaceful, each person being fully present as the day naturally unfolds and flows. This is the type of wedding a lot of people dream of—the kind of people that don’t want a traditional wedding, don’t want the stress of a big wedding, and who really just want to focus on the two of them as a couple, and celebrate with their closest loved ones.

This intimate elopement wedding in the forest of Glen Oaks, California was simple, and intentional. The day started out with Liz getting ready in her cabin, with her soon-to-be sister-in-law helping her get ready and buttoning up her wedding gown, an airplane pin to go in her bouquet in honor of her late father, while Brent spent time getting ready with their son Theo. Rugs lined the floor of the Fairy Forest, a circle of sequoia trees, with the scent Palo Santo incense. Family members gathered in the forest on wooden chairs, fully present, and awaited the couple. The groom walked down a dirt road, with a pine tree backdrop, and then stood at their altar with his close friend officiating. The bride walked out of her cabin and into the forest, a beautiful smile lighting up her face. The couple echanged vows encircled by their close family and friends, surrounded by the sequoias, while their son played with the wooden lanterns.

The day led into charcuterie and wine with family in a green grassy meadow near the river. with Theo playing with his dad chasing him through the grassy meadow. For dinner they picked up pizza from a local restaurant and enjoyed a casual meal, followed by toasts from siblings and parents, and cake cutting around the table decorated with eclectic linens and candlesticks. As golden hour neared (it didn’t end up being very golden, and ended up raining instead, which lead to some soft, misty skies) we took off for photos of the couple along the coast of Big Sur with the cliffside ocean views. There was lots of wind, and a little rain, with moody skies, and Liz’s dress flowing in the wind. It was perfectly imperfect. We ended the day at In N Out burger in honor of their first date, with shakes, burgers, and fries.

Your wedding can be your own, and curated into the experience that you want to have. Micro weddings, intimate weddings, and elopements all allow for you to have an intimate and meaningful wedding day, that feels fun and stress free, and authentic and intentional. You get to create your experience, and honor yourselves as individuals and as a couple, and deserve to have a wedding that feels true and authentic to you vs catering to everyone else’s expectations and tradition.
