Family Pictures in Heber, Utah | Wasatch County Photographer

A couple of years ago, our family moved to Heber, UT. It was a place we had always wanted to live so we finally just went for it. It’s been a challenge relocating my photography business, but it’s also been SO much fun. I love living in Heber because it allows for me to serve not only Heber, but also the surrounding areas like Park City, Midway, Salt Lake, and Provo. It’s been a ton of fun to location scout for good locations to take family pictures and engagement pictures and I’ve got a list of gorgeous locations up my sleeve. One of my favorite areas in Heber is Wasatch State Park. You get the view of the mountains in the background and this little area with grassy fields and pretty light was the perfect spot this family photo session in the late fall with my friend and her family. Enjoy scrolling through this session with the most adorable kiddos I have possibly ever seen.

P.S. I mixed in a bit of black and white film, so for those of you who appreciate and can see the beauty of film, see if you can pick them out. ;)

I met Shelby on Instagram and was so excited to set up a family photo shoot for her. I traveled to Logan, Utah for this family session and we found the coolest spot for pictures near the mountains. If you need a location in Logan for your family pictures, be sure to check out Green Canyon. It’s got a really good variety of scenery and beautiful light a couple of hours before sunset.

LAID-BACK COUPLES SESSION IN THE SAND DUNES IN THE UTAH DESERT

Utah has got so many great location for engagement and bridal photos. One of the coolest landscapes we have here are the sand dunes. There are several different locations in Utah that each have their own unique look of sand dunes. Down near Moab, Utah, there are the Coral Pink Sand Dunes. The cool thing about this location, is that you aren’t far from Amangiri Resort, Lake Powell, or Zion’s National Park. Moab has also got some cool dunes, and that also gets you in a cool area with all sorts of rock formations, desert views for days, and the infamous Dead Horse Point. I woke up SUPER early for a bridal photo shoot there and it was worth every minute of sleep that I didn’t get that morning. Another area that has got some really great sand dunes is Snow Canyon State Park, near St. George, Utah. I’ll link an elopement I did there down below. The sand here is a deep burnt orange and the views are stunning. For a clean white sand, you can go to Little Sahara in Eureka, Utah and there are also some in Vernal, Utah (who knew?). Little Sahara is clean and minimal, with sand dunes for miles, whereas Vernal has a small area of them, but the surrounding landscape is also gorgeous and offers some diversity in the surrounding desert landscape.

Tai Lee Photography | Specializing In Artfully Documenting Your Life

Film photography has been gaining a lot of popularity over the past few years and I have been sucked into all the hype around it. I actually started out my photography journey shooting on film but it was too unpredictable and not very cost effective. Plus the stress of wondering if you got your exposures right and if the photos turned out was a little overwhelming. I’ve actually hung onto my film camera and have pulled it out for fun to shoot black and white film (my all time favorite) and in the last couple years have started playing with color film.

Jennifer + Chris’s Intimate Elopement in Snow Canyon State Park

Snow Canyon, near St. George Utah, is one of the most beautiful places and if you are looking for a beautiful outdoor location to get married, put this place on your “Utah Wedding Location Ideas” list. We visit at least once a year, especially in the winter because it’s not as cold as Norther Utah. One of the most magical experiences I’ve had was standing on top of the Petrified Sand Dunes in January, above the clouds, with views of red rocks, cliffs, and lava rock. Stunning and serene are the two words that come to mind—two words that are so fitting for an elopement or intimate wedding with your favorite people.

So I had an idea a while back that it would be nice to get wedding advice, planning tips, and suggestions from the people that had been there before. They don’t look at tradition and evaluate it. Something I love about wedding photography is that you get to design your day. There is no perfect way, and what suits one couple will be totally different than what suits another. This small, intimate backyard Utah wedding was so beautiful, so intentional, and so meaningful. Amanda and Devin were so down to earth, and so real about exactly what they were wanting their wedding day to look like. They were all about having their most cherished family members to celebrate with them (including their dog babies) and you can really see the deep connection they have with one another. Amanda and Devin has recently lost a grandfather which really played a role in the importance of a simple micro wedding without all the fluff. They also brought in a killer officiant who spoke beautiful words over them in love and support. This summer wedding was hot as hell, but we all got through it and the memories created will last forever.

Tai Lee Photography | Artistic Family Photographer

Malissa has been a good friend of mine for the last several years and when she called me and asked if I wanted to swap family pictures for each other at the sand dunes in Utah, I was ALL IN. There are several sand dunes locations in Utah. One of them is in Eureka at Little Sahara Recreation center, another is the Coral Sand Dunes, and believe it or not, there are some in the Uintah Basin. It is always so fun to photograph another photographer’s family. They come ingrained with what we call insider knowledge ;) and know a few things that are really helpful for their photographer. They have an understanding that family photos can be fun, that they don’t need to stress about yelling at their kids through the whole shoot to get them to behave, and they have a sixth sense for killer locations to do family photos. Utah is full of these outdoor places to take pictures, but the standard is to do fall family pictures and do them in the mountains where the leaves are orange and red. Nothing is wrong with this, and the mountains in Northern Utah in the fall are stunning, but I’ve found that photographers as well as other clients of mine that are creative souls, really love doing something outside of the norm. They like to break tradition a little. Something both Malissa and I have LOVED is taking family photos in the summertime. The light is delicious, and warm, and full of life. So we swapped sessions and I couldn’t be more happy with how both of our photos turned out. Malissa does BEAUTIFUL work on film, and I snuck in a few film shots of her family as well. See if you can pick them out! Check out our family session with Malissa HERE.
